Five-Chair-Rise

Time five controlled rises from a firm chair. This tracks lower-body power and how well you move between sitting and standing. It is a performance tracker, not a fall predictor.

Set up

Use a firm, non-rolling chair against a wall. Reference seat height about 17 in / 43 cm. Sit with your back against the chair, feet flat, arms crossed over your chest. Keep support within reach but don't use it during a valid try. Use the same chair every time.

Familiarize first: do one or two slow practice rises to confirm the pattern and that the chair is stable. Rest until your breathing settles, then record one timed try.

Record your timed try

Tap Start and stand up fully and sit with control, as fast as is safe, for five rises. Tap Done the instant you reach full standing on the fifth rise.

Stop for chest pain, faintness, severe breathlessness, sudden weakness, or loss of control. Skip this test after recent lower-limb surgery, acute hip/knee/ankle pain, or current dizziness.
